exceptとexcept forの違い。
(2) {Every boy / All boys / No boy / *Most boys / *Few boys / *A lot of boys / *Three boys } except John came.
(3) Except for John, {every boy / all boys / no boy / most boys / few boys / * a lot of boys / *three boys } came.
(4) a. *The boys except John came.
b. *I've cleaned the house except the living room.
(6) a. The boys came except for John.
b. I've cleaned the house except for the living room.
(15) a. *The office was empty, except the secretary.
b. The office was empty, except for the secretary.
(19) a. *Except John and Mary, we're all here.
b. Except for John and Mary, we're all here.
